The CHBA® certification process, administered by the National Association of Expert Advisors, identifies to the public that those individuals who have been authorized to use the CHBA® certification marks in the U.S. have met rigorous professional standards and have agreed to adhere to the principles of integrity, objectivity, competence, fairness, confidentiality, professionalism and diligence when dealing with consumers.

CHBA® professionals must pass the comprehensive CHBA® Certification Examination, agree to abide by the National Association of Expert Advisors Code of Ethics and Professional Responsibility and Rules of Conduct which put clients' interests first. These are just some of the reasons why the CHBA® certification is becoming increasingly recognized.

In addition, the CHBA® certification prepares you for a career-long commitment to meeting the ever-changing needs of your clients. As a CHBA® professional, you become a coach and problem-solver, able to provide truly personalized services to clients and to maintain high levels of expert advice. Finally, your expertise and credibility as a Certified Home Buying Advisor is instantly communicated through available press releases to your network and market. The Certified Home Buying Advisor certification is quickly being recognized as the most sought after by consumers.





To become certified, you are required to meet the following initial certification requirements:





These four components are briefly described below; subsequent sections of this Guide to CHBA® Certification provide detailed information about each component. While the CHBA® certification requirements may be changed from time to time, you will be expected to meet the requirements that are in place at the time you apply for the CHBA® Certification Examination.



After you have successfully provided proof of active licensure, you will be eligible to register for the CHBA Certification Examination. The CHBA certification examination process assesses your ability to provide your expert home buying knowledge, in an integrated learning format. You will be provided all of the content in preparation for your examination once you are accepted into the program. Combined with the education, experience and ethics requirements, it assures consumers that you have met a level of competency required to provide expert advice. 

The first step to CHBA certification is to hold an active real estate license. License number must provided at time of application. This ensures that you have satisfied the state level licensure requirements and successfully passed the state level examination. An active license also ensures that you are engaged in basic continuing education requirements required for renewal of an active real estate license. 

Because the CHBA certification indicates to consumers your ability to provide expert buying advice, the National Association of Expert Advisors required you to have a minimum production standard. This qualifying criteria signifies your competency through results. The minimum production standards are a minimum of 20 transactions and/or 5 million dollars in volume in the past 12 months of active practice. 


CHBA professionals agree to adhere to the highest standards of ethics and practice outlined in the NAEA code of ethics. Once you complete all of the requirements of Education, Examination and Experience, you will be asked to sign a recognition and acceptance of the NAEA code of ethics. Authorization to use the CHBA marks will not be approved until the signed acknowledgment and agreement have been signed and received by NAEA offices. 


Once you have been authorized to use the CHBA® designation, you must meet NAEA's renewal standards to continue to utilize it.

The renewal requirements include the following:

Pay the annual $297 certification fee (non-refundable),

Submit a properly completed re-qualification application (every two years), and provide proof of active licensure with your state. 

Attend 1 live Expert Advisor Bootcamp in for each 12 months you actively hold the CHBA designation. 

The certification fee, in conjunction with other sources of revenue including live training fees, supports the operations of NAEA in fulfilling its mission and objectives. Some of these activities include protection of the CHBA® certification marks; enforcement of NAEA’s Standards of Professional Conduct; educating the public about the benefits of the CHBA designation; and development and administration of the CHBA® Certification Examination.

Renewal reminders will be sent to you beginning approximately one month before your certification expires.
